FINE ART DOCUMENTARY PORTRAITURE

How do Documentary Portrait Sessions work?

I meet you at a favorite family spot and hang out with your children.  They show me their favorite things, the cartwheel they are trying to master, their special hiding spot for hide-and-seek in the backyard.  And I take photos.  I make photos of their goofy side, their serious side, their curious side and their delighted side.  And if they scrape their knee and look up at me in tears, I make photos of that too.  My goal is to make honest, artful photographs of your children being themselves.

Where is the best place to photograph a Documentary Portrait Session?

The best location is an outdoor spot where your children love to play.  It could be at a park, down by the creek, or your own backyard.  The important thing is that your children will be comfortable and engaged with their environment, without needing the direction of you or me to entertain them.  We'll talk before your session to pick the perfect place.

How long does the session last?

I don't put any time limits on my Documentary Portrait Sessions.  Most sessions run between 1 - 2 hours, and I guarantee at least 1 hour of shooting.  I prefer these sessions to feel relaxed and for things to unfold naturally, and I will stay as long as I need to in order to make good photos of your children.

What do the parents do during the session?

You don't need to do anything!  The focus of this session is your children, and the kind of photos I make will happen easier and more naturally without any involvement from the parents.  All you need to do is stay nearby so your children feel safe and give your children some space and freedom to play and explore.

What do we receive in terms of photos and products?

Included in the session fee is a gallery of 20+ high resolution digital images and one 11 x 14 print.  I guarantee at least 20 photos for the first child, and 10 photos for each child after that.  My goal is to deliver a gallery of fine art photographs that are worthy of hanging on your wall.  For that reason I spend a longer amount of time than usual hand-editing each photo and deliver a smaller gallery than you would receive from a traditional documentary session.  The gallery is delivered approximately 3 - 4 weeks from the date of the shoot, and your print will be ordered as soon as you decide which photograph you would like printed.

How much does a documentary portrait session cost?

Your total investment is $600 for the first child and $100 for each additional child.  This price includes a digital gallery of high resolution digital images suitable for printing, a gallery of web-sized digital images perfect for sharing on social media, and one 11 x 14 print.  There is also the option to add prints onto your order or upgrade your 11 x 14 print to a larger size for an additional cost.
