FINE ART DOCUMENTARY PORTRAIT SESSIONS:

I meet you at a favorite spot where your children love to play.  It could be a park, down by the creek, or your own backyard.  And I hang out with your children.  They show me their favorite things, the cartwheel they are trying to master, their special hiding spot for hide-and-seek in the backyard.  While they are showing me around their world, I take photos.  I make photos of their goofy side, their serious side, their curious side and their delighted side.  And if they scrape their knee and look up at me in tears, I make photos of that too.  My goal is to make honest, artful photographs of your children being themselves.  These sessions usually last between 1 - 2 hours.  The end result is a gallery of timeless, artistic portraits of your children that you will want to print and hang on your wall.

Short Storytelling Session:

Short Storytelling Sessions are designed to capture the essence of your family in a 1.5 - 2 hour photo-shoot, taking place at your home or location of choice.  During this session there will be a small period of time allotted for formal portraits, but the majority of the session will be completely photo-journalistic in nature.  Your only job is to let your children play and be themselves and to interact as you normally would as a family, while I capture all the tender, funny, silly, and loving moments that unfold.  Because this is a shorter session, families often plan an activity to do during the session that brings everyone together.  Baking, going for a walk, eating a meal together, bathtime for the kids - whatever it is that your family does to enjoy each each others company.  As with all my storytelling sessions, we'll talk before the session about what you would like to take place while I am there, and what moments in particular you would like me to watch for.

Half-Day Storytelling Session:

Half-day Sessions are usually 4-5 hours in length and can take place at any time of the day.  Some families choose to begin the session when their children first wake up in the morning - to capture the bleary-eyed first hugs, the morning routine, breakfast, maybe an outing, and then end with putting their children down for a nap.  Other families may want to remember late afternoon walks, their kids playing in the yard at sunset, family dinners, teeth-brushing, chasing little people around the house in their pajamas, reading bedtime stories and tucking their children into bed.  Whatever you choose, I will be there to tell the story of your day - laughter, tears, scraped knees, messy faces and all.  Half-day sessions are a great way to experience documentary photography.  They are short enough to not feel overwhelming, and long enough to forget that there is someone following your family around with a camera.  The result is a beautiful gallery of photos and a custom photo album of your families day.

Fresh 48:

A Fresh 48 is a 2-3 hour Storytelling Session that takes place during the first 48 hours of your babies life.  While this session is mostly documentary in nature, it may include slight direction by me to make sure that I am able to capture portraits of your baby with parents,  siblings and grandparents.  Your gallery will also include detail shots and several posed portraits of your newborn.  If you gave birth in a hospital or birthing center, this session usually takes place in your recovery room - which is a special way to remember those first few days of bonding with your baby and all the details surrounding your hospital stay.  This session can be particularly meaningful if you plan for siblings or other relatives to come to the hospital and meet your baby for the first time while I am there.  With Fresh 48 sessions I have a very understanding rescheduling policy - if your birth was more difficult that expected or you do not feel up to being photographed, I am happy to reschedule the session to a later date as an in-home newborn session.

In-home Newborn Session:

In-home Newborn Sessions are fun 2-3 hour Storytelling Sessions that capture all the love surrounding your newest family member.  This session takes place at home, and captures your home and your family just as they were when your baby first arrived.  While this session is mostly documentary in nature, it may include slight direction by me to make sure that I am able to capture portraits of your baby with parents, siblings and grandparents.  Your gallery will also include detail shots and several posed portraits of your newborn.  All my newborn sessions are very relaxed, with your baby's comfort as top priority.  Quiet moments of soothing or nursing your baby often make some of the most beautiful portraits of the special bond between mother and child.

Home Coming:

Home Coming Newborn Sessions tell the story of your family bringing your new baby home from the hospital.  I am usually with you for 3-4 hours (not including driving time) to document the arrival of your new baby on their first day home.  This shoot usually starts in the hospital or birthing center as you prepare your baby for the ride home, and then follows you to your home where the majority of the session takes place with the rest of your family.  This is a very special session because it includes details from your hospital stay as well as time in your home with the baby.  This Storytelling Session is mostly documentary in nature, but may include slight direction by me to make sure that I am able to capture portraits of your baby with parents, siblings and grandparents.  Your gallery will also include detail shots and several posed portraits of your newborn.

Special Life Events:

Birthday parties.  Dinner parties.  Baby showers.  Ba Mitzvahs.  Military Homecomings.  Adoptions.  Family get togethers.  Baptisms.  Preschool graduations.  Beauty pageant competitions.  Sending your child to school on their first day of kindergarten.  Bringing home a pet from the animal shelter.   An afternoon of homeschooling.  Your family vacation.  Some of my favorite photography sessions are these everyday life events that hold special meaning for your family.  Because each family event is different, these Storytelling Sessions may range in length from an hour to half a day.  All sessions include an online gallery and a short story-book style album that portrays in photos the story of your special life event.
